Shroud of Turin Lasagna

In honor of our new location, the food theme this week was Christian food! Sadly, no water was turned into wine, but here's my attempt at a "shroud of turin" lasagna. Can you see the face of the Lord? :)

To create your own personal Jesus lasagna:

The sauce -- one can of stewed tomatoes and one can of tomato sauce
Vegetable filling -- strips of roasted red peppers and portobello mushrooms marinated in balsamic vinegar (you can sometimes get these at the Wegman's olive bar so that you don't have to marinate them yourself)
Cheese filling -- one tub of cottage cheese, half a bag of frozen spinach (don't forget to squeeze out all of the water), parmesan and grated mozzarella, lots of chopped up garlic, pepper and basil

Layer the sauce and fillings in any order you like with lasagna noodles (starting with a layer of sauce on the bottom usually makes it easier to scoop out of the pan). Top with mozzarella cheese and bake covered at 375 for about an hour or so. Take off the covering for the last ten minutes or so to make sure your cheese is nice and melty on top.

To make the Jesus face, I toasted some grated parmesan in a pan and sprinkled it on after it came out of the oven.

Reach out and touch faith!

This has got to be one of most original uses of food ever! I must replicate it.
